The introduction of the electronic healthcare card signals the dawn of a new era in healthcare. The healthcare card enables a variety of functions for the medical environment beyond simply reading out administration data, as on the old health insurance card. The aim is to optimize the treatment process from the patient’s point of view, and to organize the interaction between patients, doctors, and health insurance companies more efficiently.

Using their health professional card in consultation with the patient, doctors can access patient records that are securely saved in the telematics infrastructure. The treatment and medication history of the patient is filed here, providing information for optimized medication and care. The direct availability of all the relevant treatment information of the various health professionals involved in providing medical services means that treatment is solidly based on information.

Complete cover for the card lifecycle

As well as the smartcard, G&D also supplies a high-performance management system – a Card Application Management System (CAMS) – that can control all functions in the healthcare card’s lifecycle in the future. From consulting through production and personalization all the way to lettershop services – G&D is already able to provide all necessary components for the new system today.

The success of the electronic healthcare card is based above all on the comprehensive and innovative security architecture of the products. All applications on the healthcare card correspond to the technical guidelines stipulated by BSI (German Federal Office for Information Security). They are evaluated and certified according to the internationally recognized Common Criteria certification scheme, corresponding to the level EAL4+.
