G&D’s comprehensive portfolio of SIM card management tools ranges from the self-explanatory phone-book management tool, through the easy-to-use point-of-sale tool, to professional development and testing programs for specialists and project managers.
SIM tools support mobile network operators throughout the entire life cycle of our SIM cards. This starts with the definition and specification phase of the SIM card and includes tools for testing the cards quickly and efficiently.

UniverSIM Phonebook Manager is an intuitive SIM tool for managing and operating (U)SIM phone books. It allows phone-book entries to be transferred from third-party programs, such as Lotus Notes and MS Outlook. This means that a company’s or a department’s phone book can easily be sent to the SIM card and kept up to date. What is more, phone books can be copied from one (U)SIM card to another, even if the phone-book structures on the two are different. Phonebook Manager has a wizard to guide you through the menus and is therefore ideal for end users.

UniverSIM Analyser is a SIM management tool that has been developed to meet requirements at the point of sale. The software is self-explanatory and easy to use. The tool can be used to edit, import, and export (U)SIM phone books. User-specific data, such as SMSC, SMS, FDN, MSISDN, PLMN and FPLMN, can be edited and the PIN/PUK changed. A backup can be created of the data on a (U)SIM and then loaded onto a new (U)SIM card. The UniverSIM Analyser SIM tool has a (U)SIM diagnostic and repair function. G&D also offers a variety of customization options for adapting the tool to the customer’s functional and graphical requirements.
UniverSIM Master is an innovative SIM tool for editing any data on a (U)SIM or R-UIM card. Thanks to its intuitive graphical user interface, the software is easy to use and allows the (U)SIM developer to test and analyze the card configuration.
UniverSIM Master contains all the functionality you need to evaluate and configure (U)SIMs in your design lab. Every accessible file can be read, edited and updated. You can even create new files and folders. With the card validation feature, you can compare the files on a (U)SIM with the corresponding electronic (U)SIM profile. And the WIB menu configuration allows you to link the WIB byte code on the (U)SIM to a SIM Toolkit tree structure, which is then displayed on the cell phone. UniverSIM Master can also display all accessible files in plain text or HEX code, where they can be edited.
UXP Profiler is a SIM tool for quickly and easily exchanging SIM card profile information. It minimizes the risk of errors by reducing the number of manual steps and media breaks, saving time and money in the entire profile management process from profile creation to validation of test cards. The tool uses SPML (SIM Profile Markup Language), an XML-based language for describing SIM profile information. UXP Profiler is a fully standardized tool, compliant with SIMalliance’s SPML specification. It is interactive, innovative, intuitive. And thanks to its uncomplicated graphical user interface, the process of creating profiles is extremely user-friendly.
Defining the electrical profile of a (U)SIM has become increasingly complex. New features, such as extended phone books, and enhanced services, such as MMS, result in a file system containing numerous elementary files. It is not practical to create specifications for (U)SIMs in standard programs like Microsoft Word, as a combined SIM/(U)SIM profile consists of 120 to 160 elementary files.
Profiler Customer Edition (CE) is a powerful SIM tool for creating (U)SIM profiles, making the entire process much simpler, quicker, and freer from errors.
Profiler CE allows you to edit profile templates very easily. The most complex of phone books can be modified in a single step, even if their content is spread over several elementary files. The content of elementary files is converted into HEX coding by default. And it is also possible to calculate the available memory and extract a printable profile description in HTML.
The profile is saved in XML format, which is ideal for further automated processing. This has the advantage that the profile will be automatically validated to the latest specifications, and the file will be loaded directly on to the personalization equipment for production of the card. This ensures that the card content and the document are identical. Because Profiler CE is also used by G&D technical consultants, changes to the profile can be implemented simply by editing the output file. A versioning system also ensures that the user can track all changes. File transfer is via e-mail, for which G&D recommends the use of Pretty Good Privacy (PGP) asymmetric file encryption for data security. Using Profiler CE at both ends of the implementation chain reduces the turnaround time and minimizes mistakes caused by miscommunication.
UniverSIM Developer Suite is G&D’s powerful SIM application development tool for Java Cards. It can be used for all (U)SIM Java Card products and is fully compliant with the latest Java Card 2.2 standard. The Developer Suite allows users to develop, compile, simulate, test and debug Java Card apps and Java Card-based SIM Toolkit apps.
Thanks to the innovative, virtual, on-card debugging features, developers can take full advantage of the multi-window architecture, which provides all the relevant information at a glance. They can switch back and forth between the integrated Mobile Equipment Simulator (MES) and the APDU interface, which connects the application to the smart card, at any time. The source code editor comes with an integrated auto-complete function and displays parameter lists and methods. G&D has also extended the project manager functionality to include a wizard that assists developers with setting up new projects. Now, they simply need to choose one of the four integrated templates for Java apps, SIM Toolkit apps, classes or user interfaces.
UniverSIM Developer Suite combines the most important functions of (U)SIM Java Card development. Package development may be off- or on-card. The script editor has a rapid response check, and the integrated standard OP-compliant loader allows apps to be downloaded directly to a card. Developers also have online help at their disposal with a guided tour through the integrated demo app.
The familiar development environment is enhanced with modules specifically for smart cards, e.g. terminal-card communication and the APDU commander. Scripting frames make UniverSIM Developer Suite an outstanding all-in-one Java Card development environment.

JLoad is used to install and uninstall Java applications on (U)SIM cards and to edit the Java parameters on the card. JLoad is interoperable and therefore functions with all SIM cards that support GlobalPlatform version 2.0.1', 2.1 or 2.1.1 or that are compliant with OTA TS 23.048. It can easily be incorporated into existing solutions without these having to be modified. This SIM tool can be adapted to individual requirements, allowing it for example to be given a look and feel that is specific to the operator. As such, it is suitable as a point-of-sale solution for SIM management. Java Card apps can be easily downloaded, installed, managed and even deleted. Authentication and communication can be performed via Open Platform (OP2.0.1’/2.1) and 3GPP TS 23.048 compliant mechanisms.
Mobile Equipment Simulator (MES) is a computer-based cell-phone simulation tool. It is ideal for testing the SIM Toolkit (STK), browser applications for 2G and 3G and for native and Java-based cards. Mobile Equipment Simulator can be used in two different ways. On the one hand, it can be used by a sales team to demonstrate a SIM Toolkit application. On the other, it can be used by network operators, content providers and cell phone manufacturers to test and debug STK-based services in a simulated environment. Together with a card reader, MES can also be used to test the functionality of (U)SIM applications, and thereby systematically eliminate any errors in applications stored on a (U)SIM.
MES enables various simulations, including software simulation of the user interface on the phone, and application testing and demonstration. Stand-alone operation on a PC is also possible. MES provides a PC/CTI interface for card readers and an http interface. The latter can be used to send requests via the Internet, LAN, or even a virtual web server installed on the tester’s PC. The responses are returned in WML format.
The Mobile Equipment Simulator’s main areas of application are interpreting simulations and analyzing SIM Toolkit commands. It also incorporates a virtual Wireless Internet Gateway (WIG) that converts WML files into the relevant byte code script. Because this mainly consists of commands for SIM applications, MES sends the byte code script to the (U)SIM using a simulated SMS.
